Its site on an elevated plane along the area’s busiest thoroughfare, Northwest Stadium was imagined as an impressive icon for the district. The facility was required to be multi-purposed, not only supporting athletic events, but also band activities, educational and administrative functions, as well as other programs. The stadium’s design also needed to compliment the surrounding buildings.
Cohesiveness was a major consideration. The challenge was to design a unifying facility for these somewhat divergent functions and programs. Another challenge was that cohesiveness needed to extend beyond the new facility, requiring its integration with existing buildings constructed of different colored bricks.
Offering a superb playing field for an array of sporting events and band competitions, during which contest judges sit in the press box, the stadium’s features include:
- acoustically-designed walls
- professional-caliber VIP suites
- technology, which students are trained to operate
- a field house containing the athletic department
- conference rooms for district meetings
- a medical center
The two-toned bricks used on the stadium’s exterior walls match the lighter brick of the high school and the darker brick of the of the administration building, the elementary school and the middle school, creating visual cohesiveness and unifying the entire district campus.
